Sweeney earns All-American honors
Carrollton, Ga. - December 19, 2005 - It is a historic day for West Georgia athletics, as junior forward Maz Sweeney was named to the NSCAA All-American squad, becoming the first women's soccer All-America at West Georgia.
Sweeney, Sohlberg named NSCAA All-Region
Carrollton, Ga. - December 5, 2005 - The firsts keep on coming for West Georgia's soccer program. In their first season in a UWG uniform, Maz Sweeney and Sara Sohlberg were both named to the NSCAA All-South Region team.

Carrollton, Ga. - November 8, 2005 - The West Georgia Braves made waves in 2005, earning a trip to the Gulf South Conference tournament in their first year in GSC play. But when conference officials handed out postseason awards Tuesday, UWG was at the top of the list.
Season closes in Pensacola
Pensacola, Fla. - November 4, 2005 - It has been a roller coaster ride this season for West Georgia soccer, but sadly it ended Friday afternoon as the Braves were ousted 2-0 in the Gulf South Conference tournament semifinal by top-seed and host West Florida.
UWG falls in heartbreaker to West Florida
Carrollton, Ga. - October 28, 2005 - West Georgia took a third-ranked West Florida team in the land as far as they would like to go Friday afternoon, but a goal by Cici Marrero with less than three minutes left in the game proved to be the difference as UWF downed the Braves 3-2.
Braves too powerful for visiting DSU
Carrollton, Ga. - October 23, 2005 - The West Georgia Braves took out the frustration of a tough loss on Friday as two Braves collected hat tricks and the UWG defense allowed no shots en route to a 9-0 blasting of Delta State on Sunday afternoon.
Montevallo overtakes UWG in overtime
Carrollton, Ga. - October 21, 2005 - With 3:40 gone in the first overtime of Friday's match between West Georgia and Montevallo, the GSC postsesaon race became much more tight for the Braves as Adele Jackson's free kick from near midfield spun off of UWG keeper Lauren Camp's hands and into the net for a 3-2 Montevallo stunner.
Braves blast North Greenville 11-0
Carrollton, Ga. - October 18, 2005 - The West Georgia Braves scored early and often Tuesday afternoon, turning up the intensity on both sides of the field in an 11-0 victory over visiting North Greenville College.
UWG falls in crucial region matchup
Carrollton, Ga. - October 14, 2005 - Friday was a tough match against a solid opponent, and the Saint Leo Lions proved to be too much for West Georgia, outlasting the Braves 2-1 in a region contest.
Camp named Defensive Player of the Week
Carrollton, Ga. - October 12, 2005 - The 2005 soccer season continues to move along, and West Georgia received its second GSC Player of the Week honor Tuesday when conference officials announced UWG keeper Lauren Camp as their defensive player of the week. The Braves also maintained their standing at fifth-place in the South Region Rankings, released today.


UWG takes down North Alabama
Florence, AL - October 11, 2005 - Two days after suffering their third loss of the season, the West Georgia Braves took out their frustrations on North Alabama in Florence, besting the Lions 5-2.
LMU holds off Braves in Harrogate
Harrogate, TN - October 9, 2005 - Sunday was the West Georgia Braves' first major test in Gulf South Conference play this season, and the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters, ranked #20 in the nation, upended the Braves with a 1-0 win.

Carrollton, Ga. - October 5, 2005 - The weekly National Soccer Coaches' Athletic Association rankings came out Tuesday, and the West Georgia's 1-0-1 weekend kept the Braves in fifth place, tied with Central Arkansas.

Carrollton, Ga. - October 2, 2005 - It wasn't the best ending to the weekend for West Georgia as the Braves' six-game winning streak came to an end Sunday afternoon in a 3-3 tie with Central Arkansas.
Braves take second conference win, 2-1
Carrollton, Ga. - September 30, 2005 - The first big match of the weekend is down and West Georgia stepped up in something that hasn't happened often this season, a close game. Sara Sohlberg scored two goals in the first half and the Braves held off a furious Harding offensive in the second for a 2-1 Gulf South Conference victory.
Braves stay put in region, Sohlberg tops nation in goals
Carrollton, Ga. - September 27, 2005 - Any conference game is going to be very big in any season. But with the release of the South Region rankings Tuesday, this weekend's games become huge. The Braves remained fifth in the poll, but Harding and Central Arkansas, UWG's opponents this weekend, are right on West Georgia's heels tied for sixth.
First Gulf South game, first Gulf South win
Carrollton, Ga. - September 23, 2005 - Welcome back to Gulf South Conference action, UWG head coach Gareth O'Sullivan. His West Georgia Braves played their first ever Gulf South Conference match Friday night, outshooting Christian Brothers 23-6 en route to a 4-0 victory.
West Georgia moves up in South Region poll
Carrollton, Ga. - September 21, 2005 - Four straight wins, including two over conference opponents have given the West Georgia Braves a huge boost in the NSCAA South Region rankings. The Braves moved up to fifth in this week's rankings with Gulf South Conference action heating up this weekend.
Braves blast Lady Hawks, 8-0
Carrollton, Ga. - September 17, 2005 - Wednesday's match was unkind to the Braves. Despite the loss, West Georgia shot badly on the day, taking 45 shots while scoring just three goals. Saturday, the Braves rebounded, outracing Shorter 8-0 in the squad's final warm-up before conference play starts next week.

UWG shoots down Hornets in mid-week battle
Carrollton, Ga. - September 14, 2005 - It wasn't the prettiest win in the history of West Georgia soccer, but the Braves took out D-I Alabama State on Wednesday at Observatory Field by a score of 3-0.

UWG moves up in rankings after solid weekend
Carrollton, Ga. - September 11, 2005 - West Georgia soccer continues to garner attention from schools in the region, and Tuesday moved up in the South Region rankings into a tie with Nova Southeastern in the seventh spot.

Columbus, Ga. - September 6, 2005 - Despite suffering a pair of losses over the weekend, three Braves earned All-Tournament honors from the coaches' voting at the Express Oil Change/Cougar Invitational.

Columbus, Ga. - September 2, 2005 - A rough outing in the first half of Friday's match with Columbus State in the Express Oil Change/Cougar Invitational spelled doom for West Georgia, as the Braves fell for the first time this year, 2-1.

Carrollton, Ga. - August 27, 2005 - The first match of the year for West Georgia featured an outstanding individual effort. Saturday, facing a tougher opponent in Florida Southern, the Braves used a team effort to beat the Lady Mocs 4-1.
Braves have exciting 7-on-7 weekend
Carrollton, Ga. - April 20, 2005 - The West Georgia women's soccer team competed in the Piedmont 7 a-side on Saturday, April 15. The Braves won the tournament in convincing fashion going 3-0 in the tourney.
Sohlberg shines in UWG season opener
Carrollton, Ga. - August 25, 2005 - Welcome to Georgia Sara Sohlberg. The junior led the West Georgia Braves to a 4-0 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State in the season opener Thursday. The Sweden native scored all four goals in impressive fashion.

Carrollton, Ga. � August 22, 2005 - It�s a new year and the growing pains should be mostly done for the West Georgia women�s soccer program. Head coach Gareth O�Sullivan came to Carrollton because he is a proven winner, and the 2005 season should be no different.
First week of camp shows promise
Carrollton, Ga. - August 17, 2005 - Camp started last week, and most of the 2005 West Georgia women's soccer roster has yet to see the field of play in the Gulf South Conference, but according to head coach Gareth O'Sullivan, his Braves are already headed in the right direction.
Braves picked fourth in preseason coaches' poll
Carrollton, GA � August 3, 2005 - It�s the West Georgia Braves� first season of women�s soccer action in the Gulf South Conference and the Braves are already making waves. Wednesday, conference officials announced the annual preseason coaches� poll and the Braves ranked fourth out of 11 schools participating in GSC women�s soccer.
